Contextual Statement
The theme of this website is based on the work of Jeannie Baker, a female artist known as having a great love for picture book art, making her renowned as one of the world's most clever and unique artists (Kids Book Review, 2010). Jeannie began writing and illustrating books in 1972, with the creation of collages actually being the illustrations within the books. Jeannie uses many textures within the collages to be able to provide impressions of three-dimensional images (Walker Books Australia, 2011).
A reason as to why exploring the work of Jeannie Baker is important for children is for them to understand how illustrations within picture books can be made with a number of particular techniques, including Jeannie's method of creating the illustrations through the use of collages. The work of Jeannie Baker is important also through being able to understanding the particular picture books, which enables children to be able to relate the stories to their own lives through their feeling and experiences.

Through focusing on the artistic ability of Jeannie Baker, by the end of the four learning opportunities students will have achieved the following learning objectives:
-Understand the technique used by Jeannie Baker to create illustrations within picture books.
-Analyse and interpret illustrations within particular picture books.
-Illustrate the required skills and techniques of being able to create a collage.
-Produce a collage involving a high level of creativity through the use of a range of materials.
-Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the art elements of shape, colour and texture.
-Identify the specific art elements of colour, shape and texture within particular art works.
-Describe the meaning behind picture books through having a detailed focus on the illustrations.
-Construct a high quality poster, exhibiting a well-developed level of art creativity.
